This blog is to help us ponder truth as we share our insights and inspirements throughout the week.
Each week will start with a question. You are asked to ponder it, discuss it with your family, and seek evidence for the answer in any of your studies that week. Post your inspirements too!

Making Sure our Shields are Up
After reading the Armor of God book this week, we discussed several times as a family the things he said we should do to keep our shields up.
I am a HUGE sci-fi fan! So Shields Up is something I am familiar with. :)
Each morning we have been having a song, prayer and scripture together as a family to make sure that each of us is prepared with our "shields up" to go through out our day.
There are lots of time during the day when our shields may be down. In Star Trek, it is never good to be caught with your shields down. (inevitably that is always when your worst enemy is going to attack)
If we are thinking about the things he suggested, we can simply get our shields operational again by doing some simple things that invite the Spirit to be with us more fully. Repentance is a great one!
I was listening to a talk today and it mentioned that one thing that comes through our shield is our own thoughts. The speaker said that we must always be conscious of our own thoughts, for the words we are speaking to ourselves, come right through the shield. What we choose to think about we do not shield against. This can be very dangerous if we are not seeking the best things to study, choose and think about. Even just negative thoughts like: This is hard, this is unimportant, I can't do this, etc. Can drop our shield strength and leave us vulnerable.
Remember to have your Shields UP always. Focus and pay attention to the things that you say to yourself and if you need to change your thoughts, don't tell your self to stop. Tell yourself the thoughts you are excited to think. Thoughts Like: I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me, Or I am a Child of God and He loves me, or I will be humble and accept the opportunity to change for the better.
Shields UP!

I loved this post. Some of the things I try to do to get my shield back up when it is caught being down are sing a hymn or an uplifting song in my head (or out loud if I'm by myself), practice the scripture, poem, or quote that I am working on memorizing, or do a quick service for someone in my family. What are some of the ways that you get you shield back up?
ReplyDeleteI try to think about something that I am excited about, like a family activity, or plan something, like my schedule for the day. I think about a lesson I am working on, or a project, or the next song I want to learn on my ukulele:) It changes my focus to something positive, and something that I like, so it holds my interest longer.
