This blog is to help us ponder truth as we share our insights and inspirements throughout the week.
Each week will start with a question. You are asked to ponder it, discuss it with your family, and seek evidence for the answer in any of your studies that week. Post your inspirements too!

Constantly Remember

These are two of the definitions given for "remember" in Webster's 1828 Dictionary:

3. To bear or keep in mind; to attend to.
4. To preserve the memory of; to preserve from being forgotten.

Both of these definitions show that "remember" is something that is constant. It isn't just recalling something from your memory, it's taking what you recall and living and doing it all the time. This is shown again in Alma 37:36-37:

Yea, and cry unto God for all thy support; yea, let all thy doings be unto the Lord, and whithersoever thou goest let it be in the Lord; yea, let all thy thoughts be directed unto the Lord; yea, let the affections of thy heart be placed upon the Lord forever. Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good; yea, when thou liest down at night lie down unto the Lord, that he may watch over you in your sleep; and when thou risest in the morning let thy heart be full of thanks unto God; and if ye do these things, ye shall be lifted up at the last day.

One quote that I really liked was by Benjamin Franklin:

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."

Life is nothing without memory. Remember is perhaps the most important word in the scriptures. We see this time and time again in the Book of Mormon. When the people forget God, they are brought into bondage, which brings them to a rememberance of their God. That's the cycle. However, for each of us individually, we can break the cycle. If we have the Spirit to be with us, he will bring God to our rememberance at all times. That's truly remembering.

  2. I see this cycle just in my everyday life! I often start out my day remembering God, and then something distracts me and I put myself in "bondage" because the Holy Ghost isn't able to reach me when my thoughts are elsewhere. Then I realize He is missing in my life because my feelings are off, so I repent and remember Him again. I do think I am getting better at remembering Him much more often though! And I know I have much more light in my life because of it. What a glorious promise and exciting challenge. I love how you said, "That's the cycle. However, for each of us individually, we can break the cycle. If we have the Spirit to be with us, he will bring God to our rememberance at all times. That's truly remembering." So true!

  3. I really love that quote by Benjamin Franklin! It's so true, if people want us to remember, they need to teach us. Also, I believe that if people want to remember, they have to be willing to be taught.
